Important Online Marketing Terms

The thing with seeing new clients is that so often I see what seems like fear crossing their faces when I launch into trying to explain why content is so important in terms of marketing your website. I think this fear is related to the big and mostly strange words I have to use, and most of the time it is fear of the internet in general – especially to those who are not all that familiar with all things online. So, I decided to list the important online marketing terms I use the most when speaking about web content generation, to help those of you who have experienced, or will experience what I have just spoken about.

Content:The words, images or video’s which make up your website. Alfalfa focuses on written content.

Copy:Copy is another word for written content. This word will mainly be used when distinguishing between written content, videos, images and logo’s which all form part of the content of the site.

Copywriting: This is the action of actually writing the copy, not to be confused with copyright which is something else all together.

Search Engine: This is Google, there are others but Google is the most important

SEO: Search Engine Optimization is where you make your site visible to Google so that you rank as high up on the search results as possible, for your keywords.

Blog: This is an easy way to help you rank on Google because it allows for constantly updating content which is relevant to your site.

Blog Post: This is an entry in a blog, like an article or new page of a website. It usually contains your keywords and can be shared online by readers.

Backlinks: This is where you get other relevant sites to link to your site. Blog posts help here because they offer more opportunity for people to link to.
