9 content ideas you can post whilst your coffee is brewing

Finding content for your blogs and social media can be a really exciting part of your day but also a little tedious and time-consuming. Here are 9 content ideas that you can write and post before your first customer arrives for their morning coffee.
1. Pay attention to current events
Check the internet for interesting industry news to share. If nothing exciting is happening there, then you can always turn to global pop culture, get your comedic genius going and think of a great pun or hashtag that will get people laughing and sharing your post before breakfast.
2. Watch what’s trending on Twitter
Twitter is a great place to join a conversation. See what hashtags are trending and what people are saying about them. Some are serious, some are hilarious. Avoid touchy issues like religion and politics rather pick something that will get you the attention without the controversy but be part of the conversation.
3. Grab a quote
There are literally millions of quotes online that relate to absolutely anything you can possibly think of. Go straight to www.brainyquote.com and do a search. Either post it directly or create a shareable meme with it using one of those beautifully styled foodie Instagram pics you’ve taken.
4. Create a friendly debate
Just to reiterate point 2 – avoid controversy in every way possible, but is there a fun ‘for and against’ debate you can create? Something like “Kiwi ice-cream – yum or yuck?” or “Which do you prefer at weddings – buffet style dining or set menu?” Questions evoke answers and that all-important engagement.
5. Read your comments reviews
The combination of a good review and people enjoying a bit of internet limelight is a winning one. Read what people have said about you and post their review verbatim. Tag them and thank them for their kind words and if you remember them, mention something personal such as what a pleasure it was to serve them, or that you hope they come back for next year’s birthday too.
6. Be charitable
Give stuff away. Money is tight and free stuff is rare. Think of an interesting way to get people to engage with the possibility of winning something for their trouble. A free meal, a signed cookbook, a private lesson on how to make your signature dish – the prize could be anything. Just make it fun and informal and whatever you do live up to your promise, and please don’t add hundreds of off-putting T&C’s to the prize. You can also start a charity drive in your community and serve as the drop-off place. How about a free coffee for every blanket brought in to be donated to the homeless in winter?
7. Have a rant
It’s okay to be a business owner with feelings, just make sure that what you are saying is constructive and lends a hand to a worthy cause that people can get behind.
8. Start a weekly Q&A
Ask your followers what questions they have either for you or about your business. They can ask anything they like. On a Sunday evening you will pick the three most interesting questions and answer them. This is a good way to see what people are really interested in and a great way to promote engagement.
9. Be casually mysterious
People love a good mystery and the element of surprise. Are you going to release a new dish soon? Start a little mystery surrounding its release. No need to be too dramatic about it, create some clues and ask people to guess what it could be or what the main ingredient is. Just for fun.

With these 5-minute updates there is really no excuse not to be on top of your social media game. Posting consistently is the key to creating trust and an ever-growing following.
